Personal Statement
Most of us have strategies for coping with stressful emotions and situation while trying not to let emotions get the better of us. Sometimes these old ways of coping work for awhile, then the old feelings come back. We vow to "try harder"... Short term fixes that allow us to avoid or numb our emotions may temporarily alleviate emotional suffering but eventually the overwhelming unpleasant emotions are back; we feel anxious, depressed, ashamed, angry. If you feel trapped in the struggle to manage and control your emotions that arise from the experiences of everyday living, work stressors and relationships I can help you.
I believe therapy is most effective when it's flexible and demystified so you can expect me to be transparent about my ideas and approach. I integrate complementary, evidence-based techniques including CBT to offer a personalized approach tailored to your goals for treatment. I will help you learn new skills to clarify and act upon your core values, practice mindfulness and acceptance, detach from negative control strategies, self-sooth, improve interpersonal skills and gradually face strong unpleasant emotions.
Finding a therapist can be a daunting process and a huge leap of faith. Congratulations on taking the first steps toward living your fullest life as your authentic self. I look forward to working with you.
