My name is Carolyn Milton and as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Behavior Analyst/Therapist in Texas, I have worked in the field of mental health and intellectual disabilities for 40 years. My desire is to assist others as they work toward their fullest potential through their own inner knowing, as the expert in their own lives. Every person is unique, so I will listen carefully to you and work to bring to your growth process that combination of understanding, encouragement and perspectives that help you to make your life better and accomplish your goals.
I have extensive experience working with adults and children from diverse cultures and backgrounds with and without intellectual disability who struggle with life adjustment issues, serious behavior problems, parenting children with serious behavior problems, depression, anxiety, autism, Asperger’s, Bipolar disorder, psychosis, marriage and family problems, aging, and alternate lifestyles. I welcome persons with mainstream or alternate spirituality, or who are not interested in that aspect. I am open-minded, non-judgmental, and interested in getting to know who you really are and help you to do that as well. When treatment is tailored to your unique needs in a therapeutic relationship based on trust, there is great opportunity for problem-solving and growth.
I have experience working in a large variety of settings, from mental health clinics, private practice environments, group homes, private family homes, nursing homes, foster homes and homes for children, to large institutional settings for persons with intellectual/developmental disability. I find that regardless of setting, or whether over a computer screen or the phone, it is very rewarding to be a part of a process leading to improved happiness and meaning in life.
