I earned my Master in Social Work degree from UW-Madison in 2007 and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as well as a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor. I started my career working in community mental health and that foundation strongly influences my psychotherapy and substance recovery practice. I have worked in a number of practice settings over the last 15 years including traditional psychotherapy clinics, forensic settings, case management programs, group homes, and substance abuse outpatient and day treatment programs. For 6 of those years, I served as a clinical supervisor where my role concentrated on supporting the problem solving skills, resources, and ethical development of counselors and case management staff in both mental health and substance use programs. In 2011, I started a private psychotherapy, case management, and clinical consultation practice to meet the needs of underserved individuals in my community. More recently, to meet the evolving needs of residents in Wisconsin, I have offered telehealth counseling and case management services to private pay and Medicare patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. In my experience, phone-based counseling has been successful for the majority of people with whom I work. My work with individuals is highly solution-focused and goal-driven. During sessions, I help work through issues such as anxiety and depression, while also offering vocational development, housing coordination, and medical referrals. I assist individuals in enhancing their mindfulness, learning skills to improve life satisfaction, and finding a sense of belonging in their community. My work also includes an emphasis on whole body wellness and I enjoy helping individuals set goals surrounding their nutrition and physical activity.
