About
Welcome! I’m Valerie - I am a licensed therapist with over four years of experience providing both individual and couples therapy. I work with clients experiencing depression and anxiety, managing life transitions, and struggling with conflict in intimate relationships.
I received both my undergraduate degree in Psychology and my Masters degree in Couples and Family Therapy at the University of Oregon.
I work with clients through a systemic lens. This means that I am interested not only in your individual thoughts, feelings, and experiences, but also in the relationships you have with the people and social systems around you, and how these relationships impact what brings you into therapy. Similarly, when working with partners, I view my client as the relationships between each partner, rather than each individual in the therapy room.
I believe that we understand our world through creating shared meaning together, and that our experiences as we move through our life inevitably shape how we perceive the world. I view the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative partnership, with me learning from my clients and accepting their experiences as valid, while also offering my own insights and expertise. Rather than trying to “fix” clients, I see my role as a therapist to support clients in successfully navigating the challenges and struggles in their lives and relationships, and helping them to identify and change the patterns they are in that are no longer working for them.
I am a sex positive therapist with experience working with BDSM, kink, and open/poly relationships.
