About

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in North Carolina, who for many years have been counseling people who are dealing with depression, anxiety, poor anger management, problems within their intimate relationships, communication problems within their family, parenting challenges, grief/loss, adjustment issues and job loss. My counseling framework is a combination of Person Centered therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I believe that as a Mental Health Practitioner, my role is to empower clients to be the best expert on their life by teaching them tangible/realistic skills to help replace maladaptive thought patterns and behaviors that have caused chaos in their lives, with positive ones. This is accomplished through psycho-educational activities geared to increase the client’s ability to identify situations that trigger the negative thoughts/emotions/behaviors and learn new ways to be proactive at catching the problem at the onset, so that it does not turn into a conflict that zaps energy taking away from living life at their highest and best. My clients are often provided with counseling homework activities that help to reinforce the skills discussed during the counseling session and asked to report back on progress.

In addition to my work as a Psychotherapist, I have over 5 years of experience working as a School Social Worker. I have empowered parents with strategies on how to advocate for their child within the school district, while reducing their levels of stress.

My counseling style consists of three main philosophies

1. To create a counseling space that is welcoming, safe, and warm and provides people the space to be their true self, free from judgment.

2. To be aware that clients are resilient and have the natural untapped skills to combat life’s obstacles. It is my job to help them build upon their inner strengths, while teaching them realistic coping skills to help them effectively address their problems.

3. To know that counseling is like a dance, the client always leads, and my role is to hold my client’s accountable, assisting in reaching their goals so they can mentally, emotionally and spiritually dance through life’s most challenging situations.
