Tonya Grothe-Bumgardner is a licensed marriage and family therapist, licensed professional clinical counselor, nationally certified counselor, and registered play therapist supervisor. Tonya has 16 years experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families.
Tonya is a graduate of Minnesota State University-Mankato, where she received her Master of Science Degree in Professional Community Counseling with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy.
Clinically, Tonya specializes in working with individuals of all ages who struggle with addictive behaviors, as well as individuals who have been traumatized. Tonya is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), play therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Tonya has worked extensively with both victims and perpetrators of sexual violence, adults diagnosed with personality disorders, individuals with impulse control disorders, as well as adults and children diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness. Tonya conducts adolescent and adult psychoeducation related to sexual education, anger, relationship concerns, DBT skills, and works with couples and families. She also has experience and training related to working with children DC 0-5 and a variety of issues relating to attachment, parent-child problems, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, family separation and reunification, as well as work with adults in the court system, adults and children in the mental health system, and children in foster or residential treatment settings.
