I am currently a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor. I've been working in various mental health settings, first as a Mental Health Technician and a Therapist since 1996. I have earned a Master of Science in Agency Counseling Degree from North Carolina A&T University, graduating Cum Laude in 1999 in Greensboro, North Carolina. My services include individual therapy for adults as well as family therapy. I have training in coping strategies, compulsive behaviors, victimization issues, developmental transactions, and issues related to disorders of sexual desire and sex addiction. My therapeutic approach reflects eclectic influences derived from his training in the psychodynamic, family systems, social learning, and cognitive-behavioral theories (Cognitive Behavior Theory) of counseling. I generally view problems as systemic and approach each person, couple, or family situation from a systemic point of view. Counseling includes the active involvement of the clients and families and their effort to change their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. In addition to working in counseling sessions, I may ask clients and their families to participate in homework assignments such as reading, writing, monitoring and recording targeted behaviors, listening to audiotapes, or watching DVDs or other projects. They will likely have to work on relationships and make long-term efforts toward change. Sometimes change is easy and swift, but it is often slow and deliberate, with efforts having to repeat it.
