About

I'm a native Texan, living in the suburbs of Houston all my life. I'm a graduate of Sam Houston State University (BS Psychology), University of Houston-Victoria (MS Education -Counseling) and a current Doctoral student at Texas Southern University (EDD - Counseling). I have worked twenty-five years in the Fort Bend communities as a Teacher School Counselor and LPC. I’ have serviced middle school and high school students, families with special needs, 504, special education, English as a Second Language, individuals, couples, groups and athletes.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy(CBT) aligns with my beliefs and practices as a counselor. SFBT is useful because of its ability to provide solutions for clients in a short amount of time. Changing a person’s view and actions evoke strength and provides solutions. Clients discontinue any actions and behaviors that are not working. Clients possess skills and resources to resolve their discord or impairment. The approach is collaborative, flexible, focusing on current concerns, focusing on what’s possible and changeable. SFBT commits to having many solutions to a problem not just one correct resolution. Clients determine their goals.
SFBT potentially begins and ends within eight sessions, ideal for crisis counseling and cost effective for managed care companies. On average, SFBT takes about five sessions and last about forty-five minutes. SFBT historically is effective in treating communication difficulties, stress, anxiety, drug abuse, behavioral problems, alcohol abuse, eating disorders and relationship difficulties.

CBT empowers clients to change their thoughts and behaviors. Clients are taught to be aware of their thought processes. CBT is adaptable, flexible and considered a preventive therapy. CBT has shown positive results in the treatment of depression, anxiety, relationship problems, stress management, skill training, substance abuse, assertion training, eating disorders, panic attacks, performance anxiety and social phobias.

I accept most Health Insurance Plans and Employee Assistance Programs. A sliding scale is available for the uninsured or out of network insurance coverage.
