About
Theresa Marotta has nearly 20 years' experience working in a variety of clinical settings. Her clinical training began at Northeastern Illinois University, where she earned her M.A. in Counseling in 1999. That same year, she became a Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC). She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) since 2002. Throughout her career, Theresa has worked with a variety of populations and settings, including as a DUI evaluator, EAP counselor, research assistant working with the chronically mentally ill, and adjunct faculty for a community college. She has worked with individuals, couples, groups, and families; however, she specializes in working with individuals struggling with addiction and recovery. In addition to facilitating therapeutic and psychoeducational groups in the past, Theresa worked in the Drug Court Program in the criminal justice system for 9 years. Theresa is comfortable working with those addicted to a variety of substances, including alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and prescription medications. She is well-versed in 12-Step support groups as well as other recovery and spiritual programs supporting recovery. Theresa has developed and maintained clinical relationships with a variety of resources including inpatient treatment programs, halfway houses, and outpatient facilities for those who require additional care. Theresa utilizes an empathetic, solution-focused approach to working with her clients, and strives to match her clinical style to the needs of each client, resulting in a unique relationship with each person. Outside of addictions counseling, her interests include working with those exiting religious cults or other destructive groups, and she is a member of the International Cultic Studies Association (ICSA). She enjoys spending time with her teenage and tween children, and recently starting learning to play the viola.
