About
Hello there! My name is Terri Shearer. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. With over ten years of experience treating individuals, couples, and families from a multicultural perspective, it is my honor to provide quality care to all of my clients. I specialize in treating non-traditional family units, the LGTBQ+ community, and adolescents. My approach I believe you are the expert in your life! My role is to help you discover new ways to manage challenges by providing a safe place to explore your relationship with yourself and others. I utilize an array of techniques and therapeutic modalities which are largely determined by the goals you want to achieve in your treatment. Among those are Client-Centered, Somatic, CBT, Psychodynamic, Solution Focused, and Integrative. My focus I enjoy working with individuals and families who are struggling with the unique challenges non-traditional families face. I have extensive training in working with adolescents and, believe it or not, I find them to be quite interesting! I am experienced in treating mood and anxiety disorders including Depression, BiPolar Disorder, Social Phobia, Anxiety, and Adjustment Disorder. My communication style I create a safe, calm, and empathic environment for clients to do the work they need to do. I am witty, personable, and informal in my communication style. My hope is that by allowing myself to show up as a person first and therapist second, my clients will feel comfortable being themselves throughout their work with me. My journey to mental healthcare While I was in my Junior year of college I went through something that caused me to seek help for my two young sons and I. By the end of our treatment I realized that I wanted to help others who were going through difficult times. I changed my major to Psychology and relentlessly pursued my degrees in order to do so. Being a therapist is not always easy. It can be hard to witness the suffering of others.
