About
My counseling approach is based on both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Person-Centered Counseling. I enjoy using CBT to help clients shift any negative self-thinking to positive regard. CBT is a collaborative counseling relationship in which there is reflection on skills learned, applied, and how to cope with future endeavors. I also use CBT for clients to spend time outside of the counseling relationship, in which the client must complete tasks or homework to help discover self and create new techniques to handle life’s various dilemmas. Person-Centered Counseling is a great tool to help clients find value in self, encouragement, and autonomy within their counseling journey. Person-Centered stands out as a great counseling technique in that the counselor allows the client to choose the route of their experience, as well as, learn skills to create a healthy and positive self-image. I obtained my Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Western Michigan University in 2015. During this time, I interned at Kalamazoo Autism Center. I have 3 years of Child Protective Services experience which helps in navigation of Child Protection law and community resources. I have five years of educational experience through Western Michigan University’s Counselor Education Program. I participated and completed WMU’s counseling techniques course, psychopathology, case conceptualization, and additional coursework. I later completed WMU’s practicum experience and also completed 600 hours of field placement experience at Constantine Public Schools. I obtained my Masters in School Counseling with additional coursework in Clinical Mental Health and currently hold a LLPC in the state of Michigan.I have a unique interest in working with women, children and young adults in the various issues and challenges that they may be facing.
