About

The most important element of your journey is the "fit", the connection with your counselor and I'm happy to share my experience with you as you look for a therapist who will be that good fit for your goals. In my practice, I am committed to helping each client find that place of personal strength, agency and power with which to affect change in their lives. Here's a look into my experience and background:

I licensed in 1993 and have worked across the spectrum of mental and behavioral health leading me to today. I believe we are partners working together to get clear about what is wanted and needed for you to create what you want from your life while tackling the struggles that may be getting in your way. My approach is focused fundamentally on what is is useful for you. The overarching goal for me, is to become obsolete because the tools are now your own.

In addition to mindfulness based practices, and mind-body medicine approaches, I combine aspects from a variety of theoretical orientations (cognitive behavioral, life/executive coaching, psycho-spiritual, & feminist psychology) so the plan we put together is as supportive and as actionable as possible. With almost 30 years experience, I have worked with a broad range of clients/goals including veterans, law enforcement, survivors of violence & abuse, anxiety disorders, trauma management, and life transitions whether it be coming through divorce, grief (I spent a few years working in a Hospice), or a profound career shift.

I also have the privilege of teaching internationally as a self-defense and combat arts instructor and Conflict Management coach/instructor. Why? Early in my work as a therapist I realized two things. One: we should have more opportunities for people to get training and experience in boundary management (and personal authority) before they are facing down a high-impact event. Two: for survivors of violent action, sometimes "the couch" isn't enough to truly regain a sense of safety and security. Learning to manage your physical safety can be deeply therapeutic. While we can't use this platform for self-defense, I wanted you to know how important my belief in your basic right to agency is so I thought I would share my background in that work with you here.

On the personal side, I am an outdoors person either sailing or hiking and enjoy our grown children who are out there making their way in the world.
