About
My name is Sylvia Joyner, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) working with clients Statewide via telehealth. My focus is working with adult women facing challenges with relationships, life transitions, intimate partner violence, child abuse, parenting, grief, depression, and anxiety. Using Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) my work has helped clients heal and progress towards living a more fulfilled, empowered, and purposeful life. My approach I will use a trauma-informed, strength-based, non-judgmental, and holistic approach in working with you. I am respectful of you being the expert on the goals and direction for your life as I encourage a strong alliance of partnership and trust. Witnessing your success is the greatest outcome of our working together. My focus I have over 30 years of experience working in Child Welfare, assessing, assisting, and training families who are in crisis dealing with child abuse, neglect, and abandonment. By doing this work, I found that I have a strong compassion for and commitment to working with adult women who have experienced this level of trauma. I typically have worked successfully with women who have challenges with intimate partner violence, boundary setting, relationships, low self-esteem, parenting, being unhoused, grief, shame, depression, and anxiety. My communication style It is important to me as your therapist that you feel safe when we work together. Your experience with me will be comfortable, calm, relaxed, and humorous at times with a pace that is directed by you. I will work patiently to build a trusting relationship that is non-judgmental and focused on your needs. My journey to therapy As a mature African American woman with significant life, professional, and personal experiences, I am attracted to being a therapist because I have a great deal of knowledge, skill, and talent that I can share to help others.
