I am a seasoned and mature Marriage and Family Therapist. I have worked with individuals, young adults, older adults and couples for more than 20 years. Since psychotherapy is not my first profession, I believe I bring a wealth of experience for individuals who are in transition, or who are attempting to navigate through normal developmental stages. As I have evolved as a therapist through the years, so has my approach to treatment evolved. When I began my private practice, suddenly I realized I could decide for myself who I wanted to be with my clients. Since every client or couple needs different supports at different times, and since I am well aware that one single approach does not always provide the best benefit to the client, I pull from several well-know approaches, but adhere to my own eclectic version.
I take pride in my work, and I feel that every client comes to therapy with unique emotional and psychological characteristics. They also have their own personal expectation of the therapist. I believe I develop strong and supportive relationships, and I am fair and honest. I am direct but compassionate. I listen attentively, and I honor and encourage the client's self determination.
I returned to complete my undergraduate degree after my children were "launched" and was accepted into a well respected university with the condition that I would work toward a social work degree. The majority of my work to this point had been in the visual arts, and owning a retail business. As fate had it, finding myself in the mental health world took on a very different and exciting way to use my natural artistic talent.
