About
Sunnie is dually licensed as a mental health counselor (LMHC) and clinical addictions counselor (LCACA). Her clinical work is driven by empathy, collaboration, empowerment, connection, and the belief that each client has the ability to transform and reach their highest potential. She focuses on the person as a holistic individual by addressing mind, body, and spirit concerns as they are related to mental health challenges. She specializes in trauma, addiction, mood disorders, anxiety and stress, life transition, self-esteem challenges, and emotion regulation. In addition to this, her focus is on helping clients create meaning in their lives by helping them move in a direction consistent with their personal values and beliefs. Sunnie has experience working with a wide range of mental health and substance use challenges, ranging from mild to severe symptoms. Most of her clinical work has been with co-occurring disorders. She utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, person-centered therapy, and practices from a trauma-informed lens. Sunnie emphasizes cultural competency in her practice and takes into consideration her client’s cultural background in the therapeutic process. Her educational background is in psychology/neuroscience (BA), and clinical mental health counseling (MA), and she is currently working on her doctorate degree in counselor education and supervision where she focuses on education, leadership, supervision, and research within the field of counseling.
