Steven Purvin is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor-Master Level (CASAC-M). Steven earned his Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling at Hofstra University in 2015. Steven has 8 years of clinical experience working with individuals who suffer from severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring disorders. Steven also has expertise helping clients who struggle with anxiety and panic disorders, depression, mood disorders, addictive thinking and behavior, life transitions, relationship issues, and men’s issues. Steven’s methodology is both integrative & collaborative; incorporating principles of mindfulness, strength-based approach, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, narrative therapy, and motivational interviewing. Steven’s approach involves setting the tone for a safe space, providing empathy and unconditional positive regard, and establishing person-centered goals. Steven assists clients in developing the ability to challenge unhelpful thought patterns, gain insight into the past, reduce stress, self-regulate, & become emotionally resilient.
