About

Hi! I am Dr. Steven Boul and if you are reading this bio it means that you have reached a place in your life where you realize something is not working and that some changes need to be made. I would like to help you make those changes. I believe that all of us reach a place in our lives where what we are doing no longer works for us, and we may need an unbiased trained counselor to help us get unstuck. For me, client's are not "sick" people that I am there to "cure". They are just normal people who can use a little outside perspective so they can see where they need to go and what they need to do to move forward in a happy and fulfilling life.

I work cooperatively with my clients to achieve their goals. For me, the client is the expert on themselves, I am just there to offer my trained perspective and techniques that I have found to be useful in over 13 years of counseling. It is up to the client if they want to integrate them into their lives.

I hold dual master degrees in clinical mental health and marriage and family therapy from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro (UNCG), a post master’s certificate in military and veterans’ behavior health, and a doctor of philosophy in counseling and counselor education from UNCG. As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of North Carolina, I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families in a variety of settings, including hospital in and outpatient programs, community mental health, and hospice. I have worked for the last 10 years as a Military and Family Life Counselor at bases around the world. In these settings I have worked with grief, depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, stress management, job related issues, and relationship issues, to name a few. Theories and techniques used included cognitive-behavior individual and group therapy, mindfulness therapy, solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing,, and reality therapy.

I also am a 35 year practitioner of mindfulness and meditation. Many of my clients have found these techniques useful in reducing stress, improving relationships, and leading a happier life.

I am a military veteran with 9.5 years of service with the U.S. Army. I have been with my best friend and wife Sandy for over 38 years, together we have one daughter.

It takes courage to look into oneself and realize that something is not working and needs to be changed. It takes even more courage to take that first step and reach out for help. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to take that journey with you.

I look forward to working with you!

Respectfully,
Steven Boul Ph.D., LCMHC
