About

I'm Steven Frank. I am a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist--California licensed and living in Seattle, WA. With my California License, I can legally practice from my Seattle office, but I can only work with California residents with telehealth. I've been a licensed therapist since 1983 but really began practicing around 1990. I see adults only, both individuals and couples. It's important that I perform an in-depth family history with a particular focus on a history of abuse during childhood and adolescence). My approach My specialty is primarily in the area of Trauma and how trauma affects the client. (although I also treat those with depression, anxiety, and more severe mental illness (when the client is stable, usually on prescribed medications). My approach is based to a large extent on mindfulness training, intra-family systems, and CBT. There is both an educational and experiential component. I have been trained and certified in the use of EMDR. My focus I work primarily with individuals that have anxiety or depression, either the result of recent situations or sometimes due to a genetic predisposition. Sometimes the depression or anxiety can go back to a result of some kind of trauma. Traumatic situations can be recent (e.g., auto accident) or from, early experiences of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, or from neglect. Many continue to experience the long-term effects of being bullied in school. The effects of trauma can be long-term in nature. I also see people with more severe diagnoses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar illness, people that are stable on their medication. My communication style I want the client to feel welcome and appreciated for their willingness to seek help. I'll want to know how their week was and what they most liked or enjoyed during the week.
