About

Stephen T. Prystash, LMFT. I have been licensed to practice since 1988 and have been in private practice since licensure. Over the years I have found that people are generally programmed toward personal fulfillment (self-actualization). With this in mind, my job is to create a safe, comfortable setting where one can explore their personal story and thus grow toward their potential. The Greek philosopher, Socrates said (500 years before the birth of Christ), "the unexamined life was not worth living." In my view, it is this examination that therapy is about at a root level. My approach First and most importantly, the formation of a trusting, therapeutic relationship is essential before meaningful therapy is possible. Since 1988, I have become well-versed in most therapeutic modalities. Consequently, my approach to treatment is eclectic and tailored to meet individuals' needs. However, I always include some form of Socratic reasoning in an effort to assist my client in understanding their true motivations. My focus "Life is Difficult." So maintains the world's great existential/spiritual traditions. Consequently, most people encounter some form of trauma (to varying degrees) in their lifetimes. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and primarily work with individuals and the personal life experiences that have been traumatizing, but have also formed who they are at a core level. My communication style As I said earlier, the prerequisite to meaningful therapy is the trusting relationship that is formed between the therapist and the client. Toward that end, I try to make my sessions relaxed and down to earth. When appropriate, humor is often a part of the therapeutic work. My journey to mental healthcare Long story, but basically boils down to figuring out my own problems in life. I was the 1st person to graduate from high school/college in my immediate family. I come from an industrial town in northeast Ohio and came of age in the early 70's.
