About
My name is Sonya McKee, I am a licensed certified clinical Social Worker, LCSW-C, and a licensed addictions counselor CAC-AD. I have a humanistic solution-focused approach with applicable life experiences, and 16 years of experience working in the field of addictions and mental health.
You've made a courageous decision. It takes a great deal of strength to reach out for help. We all face adversities throughout life. What defines us is how we choose to address them. Issues surrounding mental health often arise during major shifts in our lives and it is during these times that we grow the most. Adapting to change is often difficult but ultimately rewarding. The challenge is real, and it may seem insurmountable, but you have the strength within you. Therapy will help you to break down problems, gain new perspectives, focus on solutions, and develop coping skills.
I work with a wide range of mental health issues including addictions, narcissistic abuse, relationship issues, borderline personality disorder, mood, and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, trauma, and anger management. I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each of my clients individual needs to help them attain the personal growth they're striving for.
I specialize in working with the unique type of trauma experienced by survivors of narcissistic abuse. If you are a victim of narcissistic abuse, you are likely struggling with acute stress/PTSD, confusion, anxiety, depression, obsessive thoughts, insomnia, and physical exhaustion. I get it, and I can help you recover. I know it's not easy struggling alone, not knowing where to turn or who you can trust. I can help you understand narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), the cycle of abuse, and the distinctive trauma suffered by survivors. I believe it is crucial that treatment for narcissistic abuse be facilitated by a therapist who understands the unique characteristics of the abuse and the trauma associated with it. Without the help from someone who has lived through narcissistic abuse themselves, your journey toward recovery may feel like a misunderstood, lonely, hopeless, and painful battle. As your therapist, it is my desire to build a supportive and empathetic relationship with you, and most of all, to instill hope. I will be committed to you and will work with compassion and patience as we move through your journey. I understand healing from narcissistic abuse is often a long process and I will meet you where you are at in that process without judgment. My aim is to help you break free, heal, recover, and reclaim your life.
In addition to a knowledge base in pathological narcissism, abuse, and trauma, I also have over 16 years of experience working with individuals and families struggling with addiction. I use a collaborative approach to address clients’ needs and develop an individualized plan based on those needs. Treatment modalities I use include trauma informed care, person-centered therapy, traditional talk therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, rational emotive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing.
