About

Sonia Baker, PhD, LSSP, LPC-S
I am a licensed professional counselor in Texas. I received my master’s degree in counseling and psychology at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and my doctorate in multicultural special education with an emphasis in behavior disorders at the University of Texas at Austin. I’m passionate about helping people to reach their full potential. I believe that no one is immune from the trials and tribulations of life, and we must find purpose in our painful experiences.
I have over 15 years of counseling experience in working with adults and adolescents in the private sector, crisis residential and in the educational setting. I have experience in crisis, trauma, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, life transitions, grief and loss, substance use and many other issues. I believe problems can be resolved when one can comprehend the big picture of life and how every piece of the puzzle fits in it, including our existence.
My approach is genuine, warm, and validating. I aspire to help individuals cultivate self-confidence, self-healing, and self-acceptance. I provide a safe, caring, and non-judgmental environment to explore your feelings, beliefs, and behaviors to gain insight and to offer tools to help create a lasting change. Since every individual is unique, I customize our sessions to address your specific needs. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults. I tend to lean towards educational, person-centered, trauma-informed, solution-focused, motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavioral modalities. I work from the individual’s frame of reference while having unconditional positive regard for their experience. I believe in helping individuals reach their full potential to become the very best they can be.
