About

I am licensed in Ohio as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. I earned my Masters Degree in Pastoral Counseling and additional clinical coursework in 2015 from The Athenaeum of Ohio. I have been in practice in the 15 years since graduation. I have worked in private practice, and for a Mental Health Agency providing counseling services to residents of Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities.

As a Pastoral Counselor I use insights and principles of religion, theology, and modern behavioral sciences in working with individuals and couples toward the achievement of wholeness and health. I believe life’s crises and transitions, as well as emotional dysfunctions, are best met by both the wisdom of religious teachings and the knowledge and skills of the human behavioral sciences. However, the religious, theological, and spiritual aspects of my work with clients does NOT have to be explicit. I am very comfortable working with clients that are non-religious our anti-religious. As a Pastoral Counselor, I view my role as a guide, a compassionate companion, to meet my clients where they are and walk with them for a time.

My approach to counseling is not magical or mystical. I like to tell clients I work in three areas or domains. These three domains are interrelated and subsequently affect each other. In my years of experience, I have seen client after client improve by changing one or two of these domains and consequently bringing about positive change in their lives. It is not just possible, it is probable. I help YOU to change YOU. I guide you through the process using skills and techniques learned in my study of human behavior, human development, psychological processes, religion, and theology, so YOU can do the hard work of changing yourself. And for the entire period of our time together, you will come to see and trust that I have nothing but your best interests in mind. I will always be working to help you help yourself to make changes and improvements where you want and need to make them. I will always be serving your interests, not mine. Changes to make will not be what I think is best for you, but what you know, or come to discover yourself, that is best for you.

I have experience working with individuals and couples suffering from depression/mood disorders, anxiety, trauma/abuse, addiction and substance use, divorce, infidelity, marital/partner conflict, relationship issues, suicidal ideation, life transitions, and loss/grief.
