Shavontae McCants is an Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She is registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Shavontae served the country for three years in the United States Air Force before she was medically retired and is excited to give back to her community as a therapist and a writer. As someone who has gone through a life-changing event, she is passionate about supporting others and their families to overcome challenges related to coping with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and other chronic illnesses. Chronic illnesses can causes depression, anxiety, stress, anger, grief and she is here to support you through it. She has experience working with adolescents/teens, adults and their families. Shavontae is passionate about educating by bringing awareness of how a chronic illness can have a major impact on an individual and their families’ mental health. Her goal is to help reduce the stigma of mental illness and therapy within the community. She is also a writer of a children book and through her writing, she aims to close a gap within the African American community by providing awareness of mental health through books. Shavontae believes in the importance of normalizing mental health issues and that parents and children sharing engaging stories about mental health is a powerful tool to this process. Shavontae is a 31-year-old African American female with big goals to make a positive impact on people's lives. As well as a therapist and writer, Shavontae is a wife and and mother. Shavontae describes herself as a genuine and selfless person. Shavontae believes that therapy gives us an opportunity to be our authentic selves. It creates a safe space to explore our inner truths and speak of them freely in a non-judgmental environment. As humans, we value safety, and having connections with others and with every connection is an opportunity for personal growth.
