About
I am a Washington State Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I hold Bachelors degrees in both Theology and Speech Communications (public speaking and interpersonal communications), and a Masters in Applied Behavioral Science. I began my counseling internship in 1988, subsequently working in private practice for 15 years, most recently over the past 3 years. In addition to my counseling career, I also (at times simultaneously) worked for 30+ years as a Software Applications Consultant, Trainer, Troubleshooter, and Production Specialist in corporations, most predominantly in large law firms. Throughout my technical career, I continued to earn the Continuing Education certifications required to retain my Mental Health Counseling License. Because of this dual career, my in-depth insight and expertise derive from both my work and study in the Mental Health field and my personal immersion as an employee in the corporate world. (And, undeniably, my successful work in the corporate world was significantly enhanced due to my counseling insight and expertise.)
I have in-depth experience assisting individuals with relationship issues; work/career issues; family/family of origin issues; trauma and abuse; motivation; self-esteem and confidence; identity issues; depression; and identifying, defining, pursuing, and navigating life transitions.
The therapeutic modalities I use in my approach are:
Existential: How you define the meaning of your life and whether you have achieved what is meaningful to you; who/how you'd like to be in your life (and what's in the way of achieving that ideal); examining/defining/owning your personal power.
Cognitive/Behavioral: How thoughts influence feelings and behavior and the interpretation of, and judgment about, feelings and behavior. How dysfunctional/disempowering/unproductive thoughts are formed that produce dysfunctional/disempowering/unproductive feelings and behavior, and how thoughts can be understood via the client's experience/lifetime formation, and positively changed/reframed to produce positive change/positive feelings, and positive and productive behavior.
Rogerian (Client-Centered): Focus of attention on the client's personal wisdom/insight, strength, and motivation.
I treat each client with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I tailor dialogue and process plans to meet each client's unique, specific needs/goals.
