About
I am a licensed professional counselor in Virginia and have approximately 8 years of experience in providing mental health services in multiple environments. I have had the opportunity to work in private practice, two university counseling centers, and crisis services at a community service board. I graduated in May of 2012 with a master’s degree in Professional Counseling and am currently enrolled in a doctoral program in Counselor Education and Supervision at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, stress, life changes, personal growth, and family of origin issues.
I strongly believe that every individual is different and has different needs in counseling. Since the counselor/client relationship is at the center of effective therapy, finding a counselor who is a good fit for you is essential!
Through a strengths-based and solution-focused lens, I draw on multiple treatment modalities to guide clients in identifying strengths and developing treatment plans that accomplish their goals. My approach to therapy is client-centered; clients are the experts on their lives and determine the direction and depth of therapy. I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to challenge defeating thinking patterns and principles of mindfulness to bring nonjudgmental awareness of one's physical, mental, and emotional condition in the present moment. Also, motivational interviewing may be used to assess the client’s readiness for change and to address any hesitations that may be present.
I have a passion for helping people take steps toward growth, healing, and wholeness and would value the opportunity to come alongside you in your journey! I look forward to working with you!
