Shanna Hoekstra is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Certified Child Trauma Therapist. She obtained a Bachelors Degree from Illinois State University in Social Work and holds a Masters Degree in Social Work from The University of Illinois at Chicago. She has over 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents, families, adults, and couples. Shanna specializes in treatments for ADHD, Depression, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, PTSD, Social Anxiety, School Refusal, Child Development and Parenting Issues, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Feeding and Eating Disorders, LGBTQ+ Community Issues and Struggles, Divorce, Self-Esteem, Self Harm, Adjustment and Attachment Disorders, and additional treatments related to Marriage and Family therapy. She also worked as a School Social Worker for many years and has extensive knowledge on how to navigate Special Education Planning including Individualized Educational Plans (IEP’s) and 504’s. Additionally, she specializes in working with schools and families on behavioral management strategies and planning. Shanna has an eclectic approach to therapy, utilizing various styles that are needed by her clients to overcome and grow through a particular challenge they are experiencing. Shanna is passionate about using experiences and adventure during the therapeutic process and makes sure to tailor each session to each individual client. She has been versed in a range of modalities including, play therapy, art therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness based therapy, attachment based family therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, conflict resolution therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and solution focused therapy among others.
