I was born in New Orleans into a traditional, Christian, African American family that didn't believe in getting help for mental health and felt that it wasn't for us. This isn't abnormal thinking for Black families and other families of color; a lot of trauma and the effect of that trauma goes untreated, and thus, is passed down through each generation. I pursued counseling so that I can show my community that therapy is for everyone no matter what you look like or where you come from. I want to help individuals break negative patterns and live healthy lives. I have worked in private practice, CPS, school settings, and eating disorder settings, and I have learned that, even though everyone has different needs, everyone is capable of change through empathy, support, and care.
