Therapist to Elevator: Well, you know in your line of work, you have to expect there to be ups and downs.

Howdy. I’m Sealani (Branson) Weiner and I congratulate you for taking this step toward enlightening yourself to yourself.

Now, to the joke. We may come to counseling with the notion that life is only hard and that each challenge is very , very, serious, and be unable to access any other part of ourselves. Accessing our sense of humor, fully embracing and laughing at the absurdities of our lives is one sign of our improved mental health.

I am passionate about this work. For me, this psychological work is sacred. You are allowing me into your personal world as you move through and beyond your conflicts and challenges. The emotional pain we humans experience affords us an opportunity to learn something new. You may be here because something is bothering you, upsetting your internal self.

Our issues frequently come from comparing ourselves with others and finding ourselves inadequate. Many of us also find we “should” ourselves, hearing that negative voice in our heads telling us we can never be okay with who we are. Perhaps you are troubled because, after “sweeping it under the rug” for years, ignoring an issue, that you’ve now fallen head first on the floor from tripping over the bump beneath.

My working career brought me from training in a corporate environment (after receiving a Masters in Counselor Education) to sales (working at the World Trade Center) to social work. My counseling work has been with people aged 7 to 95, including the full array of the gender and ideological spectrums. At this time, my practice is limited to working with individual adults. I am a Clinical Social Worker- Certified, licensed in Maryland. I have held licenses in Washington D.C., New York, and New Mexico. The qualities that I bring to my work are as follows:

-An appreciation of CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING and gently STRETCHING ONE'S SELF-LIMITATIONS;
-Every path to HEALING THE HURTS is unique, and should be recognized as such;
-ACCEPTANCE and COMPASSION are gifts to oneself.

I’m direct, warm, and understanding. Having worked through so much myself, I can be a “safe container” to whom you can express your wounds without fear. My areas of expertise and experience also include working with individuals (as well as couples, groups and families) coping with: loss, disability, sexual abuse, incest, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, anxiety, self-hatred, depression, and dis/empowerment issues.
