About
Anything I'm going to say here is probably no different than any other therapist will write in their biography: I am a holistic, Jungian, CBT trained, DBT trained, solution-focused, person centered, humanistic, IFS practitioning Therapist.
All of those things are true and I have been trained to some degree in each of those. I've been doing this work in some form or fashion since the year 2001 and have been licensed as a therapist since 2008. And I am getting more simple in my practice. I now use these tools in an authentic and realistic sense, but I have recently discovered that all these tools, while so powerful, have zero purpose if we don’t know what we are building. If you don’t know what ‘getting better’ means, how can you build a road to ‘better’? We ask people to plan a trip, without know what it will mean when we arrive there.
So many times as therapists we start working on ‘getting better’ but so often most of us have forgotten (or have never known) what ‘better’ feels like. So, I now start with a very simple Guided Imagery session where we pole-vault over the frontal cortex’s tyranny (that voice in our heads that is usually telling us negative, unfulfilling things) and get into the pre-conscious mind that uses images and feelings and not words. We discover what that ‘centered-self’ feels like, looks like and Is and then we use the modalities / tools to get there more and more permanently. Then the tools take on a purpose and we can use them accurately.
I would like to work with you to first see yourself in that place of ease, and then develop a plan to get there. Of course, even this approach will not work with everyone depending upon personal history, level of past traumas. My approach is tailored for you.
This journey to experiencing your centered Self takes courage, but not as much as you think. It will take commitment, but sometimes this waivers. It’s ok. Let’s start and take the setbacks and successes as we can.
