About
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and earned my Master of Education in Counseling from the University of Houston. While there, I completed my practicum at Montrose Counseling Center (now, The Montrose Center), a community and counseling center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender adolescents and adults and their loved ones. I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. Since graduating, I have worked in nursing homes, with long-term addiction at a local methadone clinic, with adolescents and adults in short-term psychiatric care, and most recently, with adolescents and young adults in private practice. I have provided individual, family, and group counseling for individuals ranging from ages 5 through the geriatric population. I have extensive training in both Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, both lending themselves to my focus on trauma and our somatic response.
I believe that when we decide to change our perspective, we change our lives. As a former mentor said frequently, "you are the reason that you are here, and that's the good news." What he meant was that if you can see your responsibility to yourself, you give yourself the option to do something about it. Though it often frustrated me when he said that, I believe that this way of thinking changed my life. I grew up in an addicted family and learned co-dependency in a very real way. It has been a challenge to unweave the wounds that my family created- but I do believe this is possible. With two decades of therapy under my belt, I can clearly see the benefit that therapy has for nearly everyone. It is my passion and my life's work- and I am so grateful for that.
My clients want to be challenged and pushed. I believe that unconditional positive support, honesty, and a little humor are crucial to success in therapy. If this sounds like we'd be a good fit, let's work together!
