About

Welcome,

My name is Samatha Belville, but most people call me "Sam". Before you ask, there is not an "n" in my name but it is pronounced "Samantha". I laugh and share with clients that this is one of the reasons that I became a therapist. Trauma related to not receiving a star on my papers in elementary school due to the teacher believing I couldn't spell my name. As you can probably tell already, I am a very easy going individual with a sincere interest in helping others. I absolutely enjoy talking with others without passing judgement while providing empathy and support that we all deserve. I believe that we all encounter difficulties throughout life and find ourselves needing someone to confide in to help us problem solve and achieve success.

I earned my bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice/Social Work in 1996 and my master's degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2011. I have been working in the mental health field for over 30 years, and have experience working in both residential and outpatient settings with clients of all ages. I have worked with children placed in foster care suffering from trauma, behavioral and substance abuse issues. I have served as an Executive Director providing services to victims of sexual assault, spent two years as Program Coordinator for a residential substance abuse facility, and worked two years in private practice providing services to all age victims experiencing life challenges, marital issues, mental health or trauma related issues. My experience includes serving as lead therapist providing group therapy to children diagnosed with autism. Working in the mental health field, closely with law enforcement, DHR and the court system has provided me with a wealth of experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults in overcoming daily challenges. I am a strong advocate for children and families. My approach to therapy is influenced by Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Rationale Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. I am an experienced presenter and have presented bullying, suicide, and sexual assault prevention programs to over four hundred students and school faculty in the state of Alabama. I have also completed training as a Forensic Interviewer.
