Hello! I am Sam, a Clinical Social Worker, licensed in the state of Illinois. I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and my Master's Degree in Social Work and Mental Health from Southern Illinois University. I currently work as a therapist, in a correctional setting, with individuals ages 13-21. My primary duties include individual therapy sessions, family therapy and transitional support services (post release). These young adults are struggling with ADHD, PTSD, Conduct Disorder, DMDD, Substance Abuse Disorders, Onset of Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, and personality disorders. I facilitate Anger Management, Trauma Recovery, Symptom Management, Life Skills and Art Therapy groups.

I believe that everyone deserves the space to be acknowledged and understood regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual preference or history. As human beings, we experience incredible hardships at different stages in our life and no one should have to face those hardships alone. I feel comfortable working with all age groups and situations. I respect your individual choices and will value your right to decide what's best for you and your life. Everyone deserves a safe place where they feel free to express themselves. My therapeutic style includes a humanistic approach, motivational interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I spent my undergraduate practicum working with individuals who were transitioning from incarceration back into the community. During my graduate practicum, I worked at the Veteran's Administration as a therapist in the PTSD Clinical Team (war era Veteran's varying from Vietnam, Desert Storm, OIF, OEF, OND). I have 12 years of experience as a Soldier in the Army National Guard. The Veteran population is very near and dear to my heart. I have served next to some great heroes and have seen the impact of trauma firsthand.

As a former Director of Social Services, I have experience working with individuals in the Geriatric population and their grieving families. As a former Family Services Counselor in rural Illinois, I have experience working with parents and families of children/teenagers with diagnoses including: ADHD, PTSD, ODD, Learning Disabilities and Anxiety Disorders. I have training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Symptom Management, Anger Management and Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress.
