About
Individuals and families usually seek out therapy after trying many other ways to manage their difficulties. Change is hard, even when people want it. Therefore, it’s important to collaborate with clients to find out what they have already tried, what those experiences were like and identify what clients need. Also, although uncomfortable, the status quo is familiar and many clients will benefit from support in developing new patterns and better ways of relating. I have worked with numerous clients in academic, community, and in-patient hospital settings. The backgrounds, cultures, and lived realities of each client have varied. However, each client or patient has benefitted from increasing their self-compassion, awareness, and recognition of their inherent worth during our therapy together. My client and patient profile includes young children, adolescents, and adults of all ages. Also, couple-families without children, families with children, individuals, and groups. Moreover, I teach university students and practice therapy from a perspective of HAES (health at every size) and weight-neutrality. I use interventions that emphasize self-compassion, body liberation and sex positivity. I am a major fan of podcasts, reading and of course, streaming services like Netflix, Hulu and Pluto. Also, on my list of loves is re-reading and re-watching old childhood favorites. So far, I have been able to live in four different countries as an English language teacher and solo-traveled to over 30 in the last 10 years. My favorite countries so far are The Dominican Republic and Scotland. The last country I visited was Jordan.
