I've been working as a professional counselor in Arkansas for the last 12 years. I am in the Army National Guard and have served for the last 10 years. I have been working quite a bit with service members and their families for the last 6 years. I have a very broad background and a wide range of experiences. I do a lot of work with people struggling with anxiety and depression as well as chronic pain. These are the notorious three. I pay close attention to how thoughts, feelings, and emotions interact. Thoughts are very powerful but sometimes difficult to control. Automatic thoughts are always going. Feelings are what you physically perceive with your senses. Thoughts are always triggered by feelings. Feelings can be triggered by thoughts. Emotions only come from thought. This sets the framework for addressing emotional and behavioral struggles. I emphasize that you are not your struggles or diagnosis. Perspective is the most powerful tool you can have. I work with people struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD and other trauma-related struggles, bipolar disorder, OCD, ADHD, borderline personality disorders, bariatric counseling, career struggles, grief and loss, relationship struggles, parenting struggles.
My style of counseling is person-centered and goal-oriented. It is important to understand that you are valued and so is your time. I would consider having a holistic approach, the mind is part of the body. Remember, how we feel can influence how we think, and it goes the other way around too. I use methods of cognitive-behavioral therapy and rational emotive behavioral therapy as well as life coaching.
