About
Thank you for stopping by! If you are looking at Find A Therapist, odds are that dealing with life’s challenges has been draining your resources. You are not alone, and congratulations for reaching out! People who recognize a need and seek assistance are some of the best and bravest souls I know. You have already taken the hardest step. Now you get to choose who you would like to walk with you to help you identify new resources for growth, healing, and fulfillment. Read on to learn a bit about me to help you decide if my background and approach would be a good fit for this stage of your journey.
Clients tell me they feel heard and valued in our client-centered, solution-focused sessions, and that they experience me as a safe, warm, and caring person with whom to think out loud and explore possibilities. Clients appreciate my non-judgmental compassion which is the context that helps them dig deeper to discover solutions and uncover their own wisdom and courage to BE in the world in a healthier, happier way.
I have been a Marriage and Family Therapist since 2000, serving individuals ages 6 to adult, couples, and families, from many different backgrounds. I bring my experience as a "Third Culture Kid", having been born in the US but having grown up in Brazil until my last 2 years of high school (my conversational Portuguese is still passable!). As an adult I have lived and worked in Japan, Hong Kong, and in various US states, including nearly 4 years as a family therapist in Kodiak, AK. In my first 7 years out of graduate school I was the Marriage and Family Therapist on a forensic custody evaluation team. I also served as a Parenting Coordinator, helping separated or divorced parents navigate co-parenting more successfully. Most of my non-forensic work has been with people dealing with depression, anxiety, grief/loss, stage of life changes, relationship roadblocks, and parenting challenges. My husband and I – 39 years and counting – have been fortunate to parent three children (now grown up) and are thrilled to be grandparents of four!
I can interact with you in whatever manner you are most comfortable. I find it helpful to meet in video sessions, at least initially, as we get to know each other. But I am also available to you via phone if that is more comfortable for you. Each session is 45 minutes and I am available Tuesday - Friday. Please allow up to 48 hours for a response. In a crisis situation, please call 911 or local emergency services, or visit the nearest emergency room.
If you have read this far, perhaps you see the possibility of a growth-creating connection. I would be honored to join your journey in discovering resources to refuel, energize, empower, and encourage you.
