Hi there, I'm Nancy! My name is Nancy Moreno-Derks and I’m a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Southern California and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with individuals and couples seeking change in their life utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy and EMDR to help my clients experience changes they want to live a more productive life. My approach My approach to therapy is based on the individual needs of my clients, and most frequently I work with cognitive behavioral therapy approaches, as well as EMDR in order to affect the change that they are looking for. I find that both of these modalities help clients learn to better understand what motivates behavior that does not serve them. My focus My client population and specialty focus are a good fit for individuals in their mid-20s and over. I find that adults who are dealing with the challenges of life, transitions, and social pressures often experience, anxiety, stress, and mild depression. I work together with my clients to help them identify what patterns, thoughts, emotions, and/or behaviors no longer work for them. Together we discover new ways of coping with life stressors. My communication style My communication style is calm and personable. It’s important to me that my clients feel that I am accommodating in my manner and therefore, they feel safe talking with me about anything. I believe that when my client feels the safety of a nurturing environment that I am able to provide by my demeanor and acceptance, our work together is fulfilling. My journey to therapy I decided to become a therapist in high school and focused on completing the well-rounded education that I felt I would need in order to become the best therapist I could be. Having come from a background where I was not accepted by peers, I learned to utilize resilience and dedication as tools for seeking success as a therapist.
