About

Hi there, I'm Roger! Hello, my name is Roger Portillo (LCSW), a mental health therapist working in Southern California, specifically the San Gabriel Valley. I provide assistance to individuals, of any gender, that are 1st/2nd generation parents searching for emotional tranquility in an ever-changing world. If you are feeling disconnected or out of touch, reach out, and learn more. I can help. My approach My therapeutic approach is interpersonal and relational. My work is based on a therapeutic bond that fosters trust and open communication. It's judgment-free yet purposeful on the goals set by the individual seeking therapy. My focus I work with clients of all genders, specifically clients who are navigating as first or second-generation parents. Individuals who are direct descendants from, or from parents of, other countries trying to resolve any confusion or pain related to transitions, loss, or other life challenges. My communication style I create safe spaces for individuals to explore their vulnerabilities. My tone is neutral and calm and I prioritize listening over speaking. I am inquisitive and curious about a person's experience. You'll feel supported and heard when meeting with me. My journey to mental healthcare I've been a therapist in the Southern California area for 10 years. I've dedicated myself to learning and implementing person-centered treatment to help those seeking mental health support. My goals for you At the onset of treatment, it is important to discuss and explore a client's expectations of therapy. Throughout treatment, I'll, on occasion, purposely bring these ideas to the forefront to discuss progress. My first session with you A client should expect a discussion about therapy and their expectations around treatment; as well as a transparent discussion about their rights as consumers. I will share my background and the ways I can assist in treatment.
