About

Hello there, my name is Robert and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and I look forward to getting the chance to know you and to be able work with you. I am also looking forward to being a part of your journey as you allow me to assist you to become what you desire to be. And that is the life that you deserve to live.
I would like to take a moment and share some information about me. I have a master’s degree in Social Work and an MBA degree in Healthcare Leadership/Management. I am also in the process of completing my MA degree in Servant Leadership. This will enhance my ability to be a better servant to you on your journey.
My approach to counseling is my belief in the power of using a narrative approach with our Interactions. This involves listening and discovering our solutions through the stories we tell ourselves. This approach allows me the chance to hear your story and how this story got you to where you are now and where you want to be in your life. It also creates the opportunity to help you become and embrace being an expert in your own life. This experience will be laid back and conversational in nature. I want you to feel empowered. To have you feel and know that you are in control of this time and in what will be shared.
I have been providing supportive counseling since 1991 when I started out as a youth counselor in a long term residential treatment program for children and adolescents. Upon achieving my MSW degree in 2005 it has allowed me to take my skills to the next level of service to the those who have entrusted me with their stories and in their goal of achieving a better life for themselves.
I utilize within my practice a strength based and solution focused approach to help empower and validate individuals to know that they have choices. I also address how system theory impacts the choices that we make at any given moment in our lives and how our choices impact those around us.
I have 5 years of experience as a DBT therapist. And because of this, I have discovered how powerful it can be when we are mindful of our feelings and in the choices that we make in our daily lives. Motivational interviewing is another vital technique that I will utilize during our time as we work together to achieve your goals.
I also believe that we have through the course of our life been given the tools to make our life better. And because of that belief, my role becomes of one who will help guide you as you rediscover those skills/tools. To know again that you can achieve what you deserve.
I use reality therapy as a therapeutic approach to problem solving the choices that we have made or plan to make in our lives. I have also discovered the value of being proactive in problem solving the decisions/choices that we could make.
You will also discover that I believe in the power of the trusting relationship. That will be a goal that I will strive to achieve as I can't emphasize enough the value and power that this will have in our journey. I also know that there will be moments when one of us will either say or hear something that we may not like to hear. But because of the commitment I have to the therapeutic relationship and the commitment I have to you I want you to know that I truly have your best interest in mind and that I believe in you.
This leads to the next therapeutic relationship skill that will be important and that is transparency. If we encounter something that needs to be addressed because it is becoming a barrier it needs to be put on the table. You will discover how freeing it is in time. We will be able to talk that moment out. And by working through a topic that has become or is difficult the therapeutic relationship will grow strong. This will be applied to the relationships that we encounter on a daily basis.
Because of my experience as an emergency room social worker for the last 15 years I bring to the therapeutic relationship the use of brief therapy and crisis management. This experience then can be carried on to the next level through supportive counseling and achieving your goals.
I have a diverse background in working in the field of mental and emotional health. These areas address the impact of depression, relationship development and counseling, grief, addictions, adaptive/maladaptive coping strategies, skill development, the impact of personality, and anger management

I also understand the importance of just being able to listen without needing to say anything.

And because I know we live in a busy world, when it comes to scheduling time to do a video, phone or messaging session I want to work with your schedule because we don’t all work a typical 9-5 pm job. So when the time is right to do this let me know what options work for you as it relates to days and times and we will plan from there. So take care of you.
