About
In 1986 I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interpersonal/Public Communication from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and realized at that time that I wanted to pursue a career in the helping field. Therefore after graduation I continued to work in the Social Service Field for seven years. My seventh year of working in this field , I decided to pursue my masters in Social Work, which was in 1993. Eventually I graduated with a Master Degree in 1996 later earning my license in 2002.
I have been practicing social worker for over twenty years and I have been licensed in the State of Louisiana for nineteen years . I have come to believe in meeting the client where they are and I do this by having a collaborative relationship with my clientele. Thus, the purpose of this is to teach them skills while empowering them , advocating for them and transforming them to their stated goals.
In addition to this, my experience has been working with the mild to chronically mentally ill, individuals who has substance and alcohol addiction, individuals who has experienced trauma as well as those with grief and loss issues. The last ten years my experience included working with EAP members(Employee assistant Professionals) whose issues included but not limited to Depression , anxiety , burn out etc. This has been very rewarding to me especially as I observe them grow and make progress in therapy, during a limited time.
I use Solution Focused and brief therapy teaching and helping develop my clients strengths. I also use Cognitive therapy to address depression and anxiety as well as
DBT (Dialectical Behavior therapy) in my therapeutic sessions. It is important to me that my client understands each therapeutic concept that I use so that they are able to develop coping skills that are consistent with their needs.
Also, it is important to know that I prefer giving very short homework assignments for my clients to complete between sessions. These homework assignments are usually based on our sessions.
I usually check my messages twice in the morning and once in the evening. I realize that it was not an easy decision to seek counseling ;therefore, as your counselor I plan to respond to your message in twenty -four hours or less. It may be less than twenty-four hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I look forward to meeting with you.
