About
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Hastings College. And I earned my Master’s Degree in Human Services with an emphasis in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University and am Licensed as a Professional Counselor. I have had the opportunities to work in a variety of settings from day treatment to community mental health clinics. I have gained a great amount of experience working with children, adolescents diagnosed with mental health disorders, and their families particularly adolescents with depression/anxiety, self-esteem, ADHD, oppositional defiant, body dysmorphia, emotional deregulation issues, and substance abuse issues, and parent-child relations. My work in community mental health centers allowed me to not only work with children and adolescents but adults as well diagnosed with mental health disorders as well as dual diagnoses: depression, anxiety, mood disorders, workplace issues, and substance abuse issues. My therapeutic approach respects the person, providing a safe non-judgmental climate. I used a strengths-based, and cognitive behavioral approach and strive to find techniques that will fit the client. I view counseling as a team effort, working alongside my client to help them meet their goals. Challenges do not have to define or incapacitate an individual. Rather, they can be the catalyst for growth and change in ways they may not expect. One thing that I have learned in working with adolescents and I think it is true for everyone, they want to feel heard and validated. Life can be really hard, many of my clients have been in a great deal of emotional pain, some believing that the pain will never go away. If you have struggled with or are struggling with emotional pain, I hope you will just try one more time whether you make an appt. To come to talk with me or another therapist, life can be better. It’s time you start to live your best life, it would be an honor and my privilege to walk with you on your journey.
