About

Hi, my name is Philippa Mariner and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I am a strength-based therapist because I believe in and like to build on the inherent strength of a person. My approach I use strength-based and cognitive-behavioral therapy. I use reality and humanistic therapy. I believe that people are the expert of their lives and my purpose as a therapist is to support, encourage and empower the person to empower themselves. My focus I currently work with couples who are separated or going through a divorce and I work with them to establish a parenting plan. While in session, I address their depression, anxiety and often the trauma of domestic violence. I am comfortable working with individuals struggling with problems related to the social environment. My communication style I am a therapist who believes that it is vital for people to feel comfortable in my presence. I want people to feel validated and to know that their thoughts/feelings are respected and that they are heard. I am comfortable with silence and I unconditionally accept people without judgment. My journey to mental healthcare I worked as a Probation Corrections Officer with the San Bernardino Probation Department from 2006-2013. After graduating with my MSW, I wanted to continue working with juveniles in detention but to provide them with a therapeutic approach. I then applied for the Clinical Therapist I position and continued to work with the San Bernardino Probation Department from 2013 until 2018. After leaving that position, I wanted to broaden my therapeutic skills. I then worked with the Community Crisis Response Team first as a Clinical Therapist I, and then as a Clinical Therapist II. While working as a CTI, I provided crisis assessments to evaluate for psychiatric hospitalization. Working in the community furthered my awareness of mental illness, family strength and self-determination. As a CTII, I was able to enrich the staff's awareness of the impact they have.
