Hi there, I'm Penelope! Greetings! My name is Penelope Sargent and I'm a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I regularly work with individual clients on identifying and exploring issues that keep them from moving forward in their lives. My approach is collaborative and client-centered. I come from an Existential/ Humanistic background. I'm here to be supportive when needed and gently challenging when you require motivation. I believe in encouraging clients to work at finding meaning in their lives. I see clients for individual therapy in all age groups, though I work with adolescents through adulthood primarily. I believe in unconditional positive regard for all my clients regardless of race, politics, spiritual beliefs, or gender identity. My style of communication is warm and welcoming. I want you to feel comfortable and accepted. Having the freedom to express yourself is paramount when working with me. I appreciate and honor your uniqueness. I am an older woman with lots of "lived experience". For most of my life, I have worked with the public. I had a gift for being welcoming and warm. I loved working with people and making them feel at ease. At different periods in my life, I have had the benefit of going to therapy, all of which had a positive effect on my life. I realized, one day, that my skills and talents which were being used in an unfulfilling way could be put to better use. I went back to school and finished my BA in Psychology and then went on to graduate school to become a therapist. I have never looked back. I consider this work my calling. When we set goals for your therapy, you are my collaborator. I will give suggestions but will not push you to develop a goal that you feel is inappropriate for you. I believe in step building so there is a foundation for our work together.
