I would like to take some time to introduce myself to you. I have been working as a professional counselor for over 18 years. I have obtained a Masters Degree from Eastern Michigan University in psychology counseling and hold a license in the State of Michigan as a professional counselor. I provide both individual and couples therapy.

Couples: Since lack of communication is the number one reason people divorce in this country, I teach new communication skills which have been proven to work to improve relationships. The application of these skills and techniques can be used when working with couples involved in romantic relationships, but also can be used to improve all social relationships. I use a variety of role-play exercises and techniques so you can practice what's being taught and demonstrate how to apply these skills so each of you has a full understanding of how this all works for you.

Individuals: I have experience working with those who suffer from depression, anxiety and other mental health disorders. I also have years of substance counseling and I use a client-centered approach and apply theories from R.E.B.T. This is a form of Cognitive-Behavior Therapy which simply states that your emotions are related to what you believe and your thinking process. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (R.E.B.T.) works when the client and myself take time to analyze these processes. It has been tested and found to be quite effective at treating most anxiety and depressive disorders, especially when applied to things like panic attacks and phobias.

I also specialize in helping people who have suffered from emotional, physical, and/or sexual abuse; as this is something that has plagued our society for decades. People can develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms or even the disorder itself as a result. I use very sensitive and effective techniques to bring about healing from these traumas. Long-term recovery and healing is important vs just dealing with the "surface" issues. It takes time, but in the end, it's well worth it and my gentle techniques will assist you through this process.

I also apply social learning theory, role-play exercises, and a variety of other techniques that help people to gain a better sense of awareness of themselves. The goal of all person-centered therapy is to assist others to become self-actualized individuals. I'm pleasant, kind, compassionate, and have a strong sense of empathy for others.

It is through our relationship as counselor and client that together we might not solve all of life's problems and nuances, but we will get you to that place that you want and deserve to be.
