About

Hello, I am Paula Davis; I am a licensed professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, National Certified School Counselor, and a Board Certified Telemental Health Therapist. I am currently working on a Doctorate degree in counseling. I will be graduating in the fall of 2023. My approach to therapy is psychotherapy integration of existential combined with Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. The two counseling theories I use regularly in my counseling practice are Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). The underlying philosophy is existential for the two theories I use regularly. Existential affects the theory in how it is used with clients by helping them understand freedom, choices, and responsibilities to live their lives without so much influence from external forces. REBT helps clients choose how they could perceive their situation differently in a positive way instead of worrying about things that cannot be changed and dealing with the irrational thoughts that are the source of their suffering. CBT is one of the main theories I use in my practice with clients simply because I believe cognitive style is the cause of most mood disturbances and the inability to live happy and successful lives. I identify with the theories because they align with my beliefs more than any of the others I use in treating clients. I believe that without a thought, nothing can be done. What is essential to me is having the ability to identify rational versus irrational that results in a functioning human cable of positive change in their lives and situations. The types of clients I typically work with suffer from complicated grief, substance abuse, depression, stress, PTSD, and anxiety. As well as couples struggling in their marriage.
