About

Hi. I’m Patricia Stern, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Illinois, with over 25 years of experience as a therapist. I see older adolescents and adults of all ages. They may be anxious, depressed, grieving a loss or trying to cope with stress. They may have health or medical concerns; or just be looking to improve their life skills and to make decisions and plans that are helpful for them.

I see myself as a resource and a tool in the arsenal of my clients’ self-care skill set. I’m responsive (“talky”) for a therapist. I engage with and care about my clients, have a wide acceptance of ambiguity and an ambition to help people arrive at a more fulfilling and satisfactory life. I’m a strong ally; protective of my clients when they’re feeling vulnerable and challenging when they need to take initiative. I comfort my clients when they’re sad and help them to clarify their thinking when they feel cloudy about what choices to make. I ask clients to set their goals and I help them to achieve those. Oh and just so I seem like a human – I live in an old house, have a cat that sleeps next to my keyboard, and have a boyfriend who plays Blues and Jazz. I love the outdoors; great music (right now I’m listening to Julian Bream); birds at my birdfeeder, good friends and great food.
