About

I am so happy to have the opportunity to provide counseling for you. My path to this profession includes teaching speech, English, and theatre in public schools, where I became aware that the helping profession of counseling would be my career goal. After graduating with an M.Ed. in Counseling from Texas A&M at Commerce, I counseled in the Richardson Independent School District for twenty years. During that time, I received my professional license in counseling. Later, a move to Galveston led to a private practice working with adults and families, where I had the good fortune to meet and help many wonderful people while specializing in adult issues such as anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, and other mental health issues. Now, in Dallas, I look forward to continuing my work as a therapist. Every day I appreciate working in this profession and view it as a "calling." My modalities primarily include client-centered therapy, which stresses a true appreciation for the feelings of the client through active listening and unconditional positive regard. Other modalities I find very beneficial is cognitive behavior therapy, which investigates how our thoughts lead to behaviors that we may want to change. Mindfulness helps us to focus on the present, the here and now. In addition to enjoying my work as a therapist, I do find time to have hobbies which include playing the piano, playing the harp for an occasional venue and at church, watercolor, and loving my pet. My former hobbies include having two beautiful American Saddlebreds, which I rode and drove in competitions. Finally, I hope to be with you to travel the road to healing and change. You won't have to do it alone.
