Hi there! My name is Pam Lemaster, and I’m a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of Ohio. Chances are you’re reading this because you are looking for someone who might be able to help you with some kind of life struggle. If so, I may be of service to you. I have several years of experience helping a variety of people improve their mental health. My current full-time position is an adult counselor at a community mental health center in a small city in North Central Ohio. I also work as a Crisis Health Officer at the local hospital and jail, assessing risk of harm to self or others. Additionally, I facilitate a grief support group that meets once a month for people who are grieving the death of a loved one through suicide.
When I was searching for a counselor to help me through a difficult time in my life, I really did not know what to look for. Back then, it seemed I had very few options and pretty much had to take what I could get. I was lucky enough to find someone who matched my beliefs and helped me see my true potential. I am forever grateful for that person and will always carry a piece of them with me as their words of wisdom helped me through some pretty tough times. Since becoming a counselor myself, I am hearing a common theme from my clients about what helps them the most…that I treat them as a normal human being without judgment or making them feel that there is something wrong with them. Many people find that having a neutral person to talk with and bounce ideas from can help them out of troubling situations and possibly into new adventures. I am excited to be part of a new growing opportunity to allow people to have more access to mental health professionals than I had in the past.
I became a counselor later in life after having a professional career in areas including business management, conflict resolution and mediation, and higher education administration. My life took a turn towards counseling after a devastating job layoff that spiraled me into a deep depression. After some soul searching and reconnecting with my faith, I felt the call to enter the counseling field. It was tough, and I had to sacrifice many things to go to school, but if I had to do it over again, I would not change a thing. I have a client-centered approach and utilize evidence-based methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavioral therapy, family systems, narrative therapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) therapy.
I hope this intro finds you feeling hopeful that there can be light in the midst of darkness. I would be honored to walk with you on this journey to find hope. I may be just the lantern holder that you need.
