I'm a veteran counselor with over 30 years in the field. I went back to. school at age 30 after staying home with my three boys for many years. I feel very fortunate for the opportunities I have had over the years. I started out at a Women's Resource Center where I developed a codependent recovery group model. I then went to a Family Service Counseling Center where I was able to work with folks from all walks of life. In 1995 I became a licensed counselor and was also grandfathered in as a licensed marriage and family therapist. I joined a private practice where I spent the next 14 years and concurrently working at the local emergency room as a mental health consultant. I had an amazing experience with an extraordinary group of clinicians. I needed to be more available for my aging mother so I worked part-time for a few years as a college counselor at two local colleges, also a great experience. As my mom's health declined I had to quit working outside the home. Although I am retirement age, I don't feel done. I worked hard to become a counselor and feel that I still have something to offer.
