About

Hello, my name is Norma Vargas. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California. I have been providing individual therapy services in the community mental health setting for 5 years. I am a trauma focused therapist I work with individuals who have been victims of crime, assault, sexual assault, and unwanted sexual experiences. I work with individuals who have had trauma not related to crime, abuse, or sexual abuse, ie: traumatic upbringing, neglect, family problems, societal trauma, difficulty with adaptation related to immigration and living outside one's country of origin and more. I work with individuals who are trying to cope with depression, anxiety, relationship/communication difficulty, grief and loss, life transitions, feelings of overwhelm and low self-esteem. Navigating life's experiences is difficult and often feels like another task, together we can create a safe place where talking about daily life, trauma, and what is difficult can be healing and enlightening. Finding your own healing path is the most important aspect of therapy. There is no one size fits all, therapy should be tailor fit and that is individualized.

My therapeutic approach is one of understanding, being present, validating, and holding a safe place while facilitating empowerment within each person. In order to help you I am able to select from a variety of approaches and tools based off your individual needs. I use evidence based modalities in order to help you recover from traumatic events, identify intrusive maladjusted thoughts and behaviors, increase healthy coping skills, and create a healing path.

I believe in a holistic approach since we as human beings are not one dimensional, incorporating every aspect of who you are as a person helps you create a healing path. I believe in incorporating somatic, cognitive, and experiential techniques in order to help better self understanding and management of distress.

I look forward to working with you and discovering a healing path together.
