I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 2 decades of experience as a mental health professional. I have performed my duties in the arena of psychosocial skill development and encouraging positive psychological advancement since 2000. My client base experience ranges from individuals 7 years of age to 86. I specialize in the areas of grief, losses, trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, and other life-transitional concerns. I completed my Bachelor of Social Work degree at North Carolina A&T State University and earned my Master of Social Work degree at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Over the years I have performed clinical duties as a Mental Health Coordinator in the system of corrections, worked with military children and families in Norfolk, Virginia's school system, and worked as an intensive outpatient treatment therapist in the behavioral health and psychiatric departments of 2 major hospitals—one in NC and the other in VA. My intervention of choice is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and interpersonal therapy (IPT) because these help me to personalize interventions from a person-centered perspective. I believe we can all learn to purposefully reformulate maladaptive thinking patterns and increase positive self-talk by anticipating challenges and recognizing setbacks.
